HCMC – drive to Caibe – boarding the Bassac
9:00AM Pick-up at your hotel and transfer to Caibe (120km / 2½ hrs)
Take a smaller boat through the Caibe floating market to board the Bassac at 12:00 noon with a welcome drink; You are presented the ship, then check into your cabin.
The Bassac weighs anchor and sets sail downstream the First Branch of the Mekong, and a classic Vietnamese lunch is served on the panoramic deck.
Upon arrival at Cho Lach, the Bassac enters the canal in the midst of the busy activity around the market: witness the heavy traffic of sand and rice barges, discover fruit-drying kilns and wooden ship building yards.
At coffee time, the Bassac exits the canal into the wider Co Chien river, in a scenery of sweet-water mangrove, then see entire brick kiln villages on the right bank before following along a few islands and into Mang Thit river.
By mid-afternoon, the Bassac casts anchor in the middle of the green and floats its longboat to take you for a stroll past the first tree lines and to the rice fields, then stop for some fruit at a rural home, a taste and feel of the simplicity and welcome of the Mekong people.
Upon boarding back, with a refreshment, the Bassac resumes her journey as the sun sets, and into the night, an opportunity to appreciate how life changes but does not stop at night on the river.
Meet the crew, then get seated for a dinner of simple Mekong specialties before the Bassac casts anchor near Tra On for the night.

Day 2: Tra On – Cai Rang floating market – Cantho – Saigon (or Chaudoc)

6:30 Wake up near a small village floating market, then the Bassac gets under way towards Cantho while breakfast is served: a varied, western breakfast entirely baked afresh like all the cuisine on board.
Upon arrival at Cai rang floating market, rendez-vous with a sampan to get you right into the middle of the hustle and bustle of the market, one of the few large genuine floating markets remaining in Vietnam. After a stop for the visit of a rice-husking facility or an orchard or even a traditional nuoc mam workshop on shore, return to Ninh Kieu pier, Can Tho at 10:30.
Drive back to Saigon (200km / 4hrs) / or transfer to Chaudoc on request
